About Us
What an exciting time – looking for a nursery for your child – it’s time for your little one to spread their wings and start their preschool learning journey.
At Roots for Life Thame we are a term-based nursery and operate from the Thame Girl Guide Hall. We have a lovely large, open space and set up the seven main learning areas every day (Communication and Language, Personal, Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world, Expressive Arts and Design). Our outside play area is set up daily with various equipment for gross motor skills including balance, tactile play, climbing, ball and bike skills. Lots of nature activities are set up during this time – the children’s favourite is the mud kitchen. They are often making petal soup and leaf stew.
We are a team of seven experienced and trained teachers, each child has their own special key worker who helps them on their magical nursery journey, documenting and observing their milestones on a program that we use called eylog. This enables you to download the app on your phone and monitor your child’s progress.
At Roots, we believe that communication is key in creating a good balance between your child’s home and school life. We have a school WhatsApp group where we send regular photos of the children during the day and information about activities and events. We also have a monthly newsletter and the children make a calendar at the beginning of each month to help you remember our special days.
Emphasis is on care, fun and learning at Roots and we make sure that we have lots of fun filled celebrations – we like to celebrate everything from birthdays to umbrella day, ice cream days and teddy picnics – it’s all about creating wonderful memories at Roots.
We work on a weekly theme where we learn about a different topic every week. The favorites are definitely dinosaurs, space, and fairytales, lots of stories, singing, dancing and music add fun to our educational program.
We provide a healthy, mid-morning snack and a midafternoon snack. There are a variety of foods that the children can choose themselves, there is a selection of chopped fruits and raw vegetables, yoghurt, cheese, pretzels, sandwiches and crackers with different spreads, milk, and water.
If you child stays later than the 12pm session then please provide a lunch box, details of this will be sent to you in your child’s newsletter. Should you require breakfast club from 8.30am, then this can be arranged.
We offer three different session times so there will be an option to suit your family’s needs. They are as follows: 9.00am – 12.00pm. 9.00am – 1.00pm, 9.00am – 3.00pm.
Children are required to bring in a bag with a change of clothes, (more than one if they are potty training), a water bottle, a sun hat, welly boots and a packet of wet wipes or a box of tissues every month.
If you would like a place at Roots, then please fill in the attached form and return it to me and I will contact you as soon as a space becomes available.
We look forward to welcoming you to our amazing Roots for Life Family.
